I am Back! with tons of new pretties!

Oh man oh man did I ever have a blast back in Michigan.  There was tons of yard sales, antique malls and flea markets.

My favorite thing I saw was 2 ducks get loose at the Farwell Flea Market. One flew off and the other we don't know if they ever caught it.  They had pot belly pigs, goats and chickens too. It was more of a junk market than anything. But I love their prices.

The prices were amazing. Most everything I saw was less than half of what they would charge here. Made it hard not to buy everything. I stuck to things that completed sets or were to cheap to pass up.

I had to carry everything back on the plane with me. Of course I do not put anything in my suitcase I didn't want broke. But the airline I flew sucked and had a 40lb weight limit on their baggage. So everything went on my carry on (and THM carry on).

Before I get into everything Pyrex I will share some pictures with you all of my trip. We stayed went to michigan. Had lots of great home food and saw all my family. The next 2 weeks I will share all the treasures and how I got them.

The view out the window of my moms massive car. This is what she sees everyday.

Arron messing around with Patrick in the Detroit area. See Detroit is nice!
My cabin in dire need os some landscaping. I will retire here!

THM caught a frog. brought it in to show me.

My amazing Grandmother.

Yes those bags are filled with pyrex!!!!

Oh and I didn't forget. Remeber the giveaway I was doing. Well i am back so that means time for a winner!!!! Tomorrow morning I will draw a random number. So you have one last day to comment and follow me.

Chip n dips

Little history for you today on chip and dips.

Remember this guy from Season 1 Ep. 7 of Mad Men. Where they all discussed the chip and dip.
And then Pete exchanged it for a shot gun.
"You have your fingers in your ears? It's a chip and dip!"

According to Pyrex Passion Chip and Dip sets were created around the 1950s as chips were becoming ever popular with housewives and entertaining. One of my flickr friends, Pagan_dar, found an old cookbook with a little more on chip and dips. They said:

"hostesses had to be taught that they could expect their guests to help themselves to communal bowls of chips and dips, or "dunks," as they sometimes called it. The new postwar cocktail parties were different from dinners in the past where you sat down and had several courses all prepared."

Now that we know a little about chip and dips, I will show you my small collection of them.

I love chips. Dortitos, Lays, tortilla, chili cheese Fritios, veggie chips, salt and pepper. Chips are so yummy.

Dips. Eh they are okay. I'm a fan of salsa and queso. Not much a fan of onion dip.

My collection has grown over the years. Some are pyrex.

Completed sets:

"Hot n Cold"
nicknamed "Eyes"

Brown Stripes
The little bowl is not the normal 441 but a cereal bowl.
Came with wooden holder I do not own.

Missing the dip:

"Pineapple Party"
Was my grandmas.

"Ivy"

Missing the chip:

"Golden Scroll"

Some are blendo. I normally only buy when they have both the chip and dip. And am lucky if they still have the bracket.

Even have a Libby set (or 2).

They don't even have to be used for chips. I made a nice large caesar salad and toasted ravioli and used my dip bowl for the marinara.

This was super cheap, like $3.  I like green.

Perfect for Taco Tuesday!
please note my divided covers are accidentally  switched and on the wrong bases.

It is not the Pyrex it is the Readers!

I wrote this post in my head while walking home from some thrift stores this afternoon.

I want to say a huge Thank You to all my readers. I realized today my collection would not mean anything without all you wonderful people I get to share it with.

At the end of this post is my first giveaway. A thank you to all of you for being awesome.

Here is the story of the best thing to happen to me since I started blogging.

Scene: Salvation Army. Around 10 am or so. Saturday 40% off day. Me alone.

I walk in spot this snowflake garland 403. Automatically knew I did not have this one. It was a "walk and grab".  You know where you walk by, grab something and keep going. Not even to stop and look at it.

Then I heard it.

"You write that blog" (something along that line. I don't remember exactly)

I turn around. A woman and her grown son where there.

I said "me? Yes I do"

Her name is Dory (a super sweet woman). Her son is Matt (and I just have to say he has really pretty eyes).

She recognized me and my pyrex hunting technique.

OMG my first fan meeting. I swear I haven't smiled like that since I birthed THM.  We chit chatted about the bowl. About how she laughed that I called the AmVet thrift store, sketchy.  Matt lives in that area, I am going to retract my statement that AmVet Thrift area is sketchy.  It is not. Maybe just a because I never go to that area and when I do I don't see much of the good part since I drive there in the not so good part. Anyways.

She is down from another state visiting her son. She said she knew it was me when I grabbed that bowl. That she found my blog while looking at Pyrex. She said she couldn't buy much as she had to get it back home. I then said "that is why I pack very little when I go home. So I can take everything back with me!"

So today I met one of my readers. I should have gotten a picture, but my brain was overflowing and didn't think to. I ran to the car and told THH who agreed it was super cool!

One left to go. The Happy 403 with its family.
So Dory and Matt, I am happy you read my blog. I m happy that we met and it was super awesome. I hope we meet again. You guys are super sweet. Hope you found something good.

I'm still feeling that high you get when something awesome happens. Thanks for making my day so much better.  Thank you to all my readers, without you my collection wouldn't mean anything. Sharing with you makes me happy.

If you follow me and leave a comment on this post (let me know you follow me!) you get in the drawing for this Yellow 503. A great size for small batches of cakes, brownies or casseroles. It is a primary 503. When I get back from my vacation I will randomly draw a number. Then I will contact you via email and ship to you. All on my dime. As a Thank you to all who read.

Bad fuzzy picture!
 Happy Hunting!
